“You do have enough time to work on your health. You’re just making excuses.” (another health industry myth)

“You do have enough time to work on your health. You’re just making excuses.” (another health industry myth)
It pops up in fitness circles, nutrition programs, coaching spaces, and all over social media. It’s framed as motivational, but for most of us, we end up feeling guilty, like we are not doing enough or are not good enough, but this is not true.
For example, I recently took a three month break from sending emails and uploading blog posts, as I had a lot on my plate that I needed to work though. From a family trip away, to birthday celebrations, sickness went through our household and I was also finishing my university semester. It’s been a lot, and getting back into a steady rhythm feels really good.
I took my time, easing back into my gardening, movement, and bulk cooking prep, and I think it's important for me to share with you that I used to be like most women - I was a workaholic who used to genuinely struggle finding enough time to fit everything in, let alone making time for myself.
So I completely understand when my clients come to me and are stressed, trying to juggle it all and feel guilty because they're getting nowhere.
I know it's not because they uncommitted or don't care about their health that they lack time - it's because their lives are already full.
Work, kids, appointments, family responsibilities, study, sickness, being the default parent... (what else could you add to this list?)… of course you feel stretched. It is completely natural that your capacity feels full.
And so if you're reading this, nodding your head, I want to reassure you that this isn’t your fault - it’s a reflection of everything you’re carrying.
The emotional, mental, and logistical load of the household - the part no one sees, but everyone relies on.
This isn’t a willpower problem. It’s a real-life societal problem.
When I work with my clients, we don’t pretend they have endless space in their week. We look at their actual day-to-day load and build strategies that fit their life - not the life the internet says they “should” have.
My clients don’t need lectures about willpower, they need me to support them with clarity, structure, and strategies that actually work in their reality - without judgement.
Together we:
◾ stabilise energy with simple food shifts
◾ reduce stress before adding new habits
◾ look at where time is disappearing
◾ simplify what we can
◾ build routines that feel doable and supportive of their goals
◾ create more capacity without overwhelming them
And over time, things shift and more time opens up, but not because it was forced or they exhausted themselves in the process, but because they were supported in creating that time.
So if you’ve been feeling like you “just don’t have time,” or guilty for not doing enough, please know this:
You’re not failing. You simply don’t have enough time… yet.
